Liverpool target to reject new contract at current club amid Juventus interest - Reports
Liverpool target Khephren Thuram looks set to reject a new contract at his current club OGC Nice, with Juventus now interested in his services. The midfielder's contract expires in a year's time, which has Nice concerned about his future.
Thuram played 27 Ligue 1 games last season, and has grown from strength to strength at the club, playing a total of 167 matches since he joined them in 2019. It is no surprise that the club would like to keep the 23-year-old for even longer.
Liverpool are seemingly interested in the midfielder, reportedly monitoring his progress (via GOAL). However, the Merseysiders aren't the only big European club looking at Thuram; transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently revealed Juventus' interest in the Frenchman.
Romano explained that the Italian giants have shown their hand for months, and this has led to Thuram's decision to stall on signing a new contract. He also noted that Juve's planned move for the Liverpool target has nothing to do with Adrien Rabiot's future at the club.
Rabiot could potentially leave on a free transfer this summer, if he is unable to sign a new contract with the Bianconeri. There are rumors (via GOAL) that he may make a switch to Manchester United if he does leave. However, his future would not affect Juventus' push for Thuram.
Luis Suarez speaks about Liverpool ace
Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has spoken about current Reds striker and fellow Uruguay teammate Darwin Nunez, who has struggled at Anfield recently. While he scored 11 goals in the Premier League - not a bad return in itself, his expected goals (xG) is 16.42, which shows he often misses chances.
Suarez said that he understands what Nunez is going through (via Liverpool.com):
"Since Darwin was in Penarol I had been talking to him, through someone else. There was a game in which he scored three goals that caught my attention. At that time it was said that he missed a lot of goals, but he also generated a lot. They criticized me for the same reason, but the important thing is that he always tried to overcome, he never gave up."
Darwin Nunez will hope he can meet - or even exceed - expectations under new Reds manager Arne Slot, when he returns to Merseyside for the next campaign. In the meantime, he and Suarez will be hoping they can lead Uruguay to success at the Copa America.
