Liverpool in touch with £60m-rated Arsenal target’s agents: Reports
Liverpool have reportedly gotten in touch with Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers regarding a move for Pedro Neto. As reported by Give Me Sport via TBR Football, the Reds have made an enquiry for the Portugal international.
Liverpool have been quiet so far during the summer transfer window and are yet to make any additions to their squad that finished third last season. Arne Slot has been appointed as the replacement for fan favorite Jurgen Klopp who stepped down from his position.
Fans have been left anxious about the Merseyside giants' silence during the summer transfer window. But, the Reds could start their business soon having registered their interest in in-demand Pedro Neto.
Neto is regarded as one of the finest young wingers in the Premier League and enjoyed a brilliant season last time out. Since joining Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2019 from Braga, Neto gradually became more and more important for the Midlands club.
The 24-year-old scored thrice and produced 11 assists in 24 appearances across competitions last season. In total, he has featured 135 times for the club scoring 14 times and providing 24 assists. His exploits have seen him being heavily linked with moves to Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
Neto has also been capped 10 times for Portugal and has found the back of the net once. His injury record is quite concerning though with the player having missed 112 games for Wolves over the years.
Liverpool have a plethora of options out wide with Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota. Darwin Nunez is also capable of playing on the flanks while Harvey Elliott and Ben Doak are options as well.
A move to Anfield for Neto could signal that Mohamed Salah is on his way out. The Egyptian King is 32 right now and has his contract expiring next summer.
Glen Johnson opens up on Liverpool superstar's links with Real Madrid
Former Liverpool full-back Glen Johnson has urged the Reds to ensure that Trent Alexander-Arnold does not leave for Real Madrid. The ex-England international insisted that the 25-year-old is too good to leave on a free transfer.
Johnson admitted that it is hard to turn down Real Madrid but insisted that Alexander-Arnold loves Liverpool. He told Betfred:
"Madrid's Madrid. L'pool are going to be going through some uncertain times in the short-term, so if Real Madrid are at the table, it's difficult for players to not go. If he goes there, he's likely to win the Champions League again, so I don't think he could turn that down and Madrid would be crazy to not try and sign him. He could even sign a pre-contract with them from January onwards, but L'pool can't lose him for free."
The former Chelsea full-back added:
"He's way too good for that to happen and it would be ridiculous business for L'pool to allow him to leave on a free transfer. I'm sure L'pool are trying to keep him, but as the clock's ticking and that Real Madrid are interested in him, then it's only going against L'pool at this moment in time."
Trent Alexander-Arnold's contract situation is pretty concerning for Liverpool as the 25-year-old has entered the final year of his deal. Real Madrid have been heavily linked with a move for the creative full-back on a free transfer.
