Man City make move to sign £70m-rated Manchester United transfer target: Reports
Manchester City have reportedly moved to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, who is also believed to be a Manchester United target. The 22-year-old center-back is said to be valued at £70 million by his club, a fee deemed too high by the Red Devils.
According to Football Insider, the Old Trafford hierarchy opted to send a bid of approximately £35 million, but Everton were not interested in doing a deal for that amount. Now the Red Devils are no longer the only club interested in the young defender, who made 35 Premier League appearances last season.
The report has claimed that Manchester City have now registered an interest in Jarrad Branthwaite. The two Manchester clubs are not the only English sides interested in the youngster.
Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are both believed to be admirers of the 22-year-old, who has made one senior appearance for England.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag signs contract extension
If Jarrad Branthwaite were to join Manchester United this summer, he will play under Erik ten Hag's guidance. The club have exercised the option of extending the Dutchman's contract by a year and he will now be with the club until 2026.
The Red Devils had a torrid last season, getting knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in the group stage and finishing eighth in the Premier League. However, Erik ten Hag was able to beat Manchester City to the FA Cup, lifting his second trophy in two seasons with United.
Ten Hag told the club's official website:
“I am very pleased to have reached agreement with the club to continue working together. Looking back at the past two years, we can reflect with pride on two trophies and many examples of progression from where we were when I joined. We must also be clear that there is still lots of hard work ahead.”
The Dutch tactician will be aiming to earn a much better Premier League finish in the upcoming term.
