Manchester City approach Italian goalkeeper to replace Ederson if he leaves club to join Saudi Pro League: Reports
Manchester City have reportedly approached Gianluigi Donnarumma about potentially replacing Ederson if the Brazilian goalkeeper departs for the Saudi Pro League. The PSG shot-stopper appears to be Pep Guardiola's prime target to take over as No.1.
GiveMeSport's senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs reports that City have approached Donnarumma in case Ederson leaves for Saudi. The 66-cap Italy international has two years left on his contract at the Parc des Princes.
Donnarumma, 25, is happy at PSG and is in early talks over a contract extension, but he has ambitions of playing in the Premier League. He's been the Parisians' No.1 since arriving from AC Milan in July 2021, keeping 39 clean sheets in 114 games.
Manchester City might soon be looking for a new first-choice goalkeeper, with Ederson linked with the Saudi Pro League. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Al-Ittihad are set to hold negotiations with the Cityzens for the €50 million-valued Brazilian who has agreed to the move.
Ederson, 30, has been Guardiola's No.1 for many years and is vital at the Etihad. His 55 clean sheets in 332 games have helped City win 17 major trophies, and an exit could be problematic for the reigning Premier League champions.
Brazilian goalkeeper Mycael is reportedly another option to replace Manchester City's Ederson
FootballTransfers reports that Manchester City are also considering swooping for Athletico Paranaense goalkeeper Mycael as a potential Ederson replacement. The 20-year-old has rarely appeared at senior level, but his stock is growing in Brazilian football.
Mycael is expected to become a future superstar, and a move to Europe could be on the cards. He's made just two senior appearances for his club, keeping one clean sheet. The 6ft3in shot-stopper has earned six caps for Brazil U23, keeping two clean sheets.
Manchester City has done business in the Brazilian market over several years, finding top Selecao talent. Their former captain, Fernandinho, who plays for Paranaense, can give them an insight into Mycael's playing attributes.
Mycael is an agile left-footed shot-stopper whose strengths lie in his reflexes. He's strong in one-on-one situations and accomplished with the ball at his feet, a huge requirement for a Guardiola team.
The young goalkeeper has shown maturity beyond his years, but Manchester City's plan to thrust him into the No.1 role might be a big ask. He'd ideally learn from Ederson as an understudy before stepping up to a starting role.
