Manchester City and Manchester United dealt blow as transfer target prefers move to European rivals: Reports
Benfica star Joao Neves is reportedly not considering offers from Manchester United and Manchester City. He wants to play for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), as per A Bola (via Sports Witness).
Erik ten Hag's Manchester United were keen on signing Joao Neves in the summer as a replacement for former Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro. The latter is expected to leave the Red Devils. Meanwhile, Manchester City were also interested in signing the Portuguese midfielder.
However, as per the aforementioned report, the 19-year-old only wants to join Paris Saint-Germain. Neves is an academy product of Benfica, and he has also made 75 appearances for the senior team, bagging four goals and three assists.
Last season, he played 55 games for Benfica across all competitions, scoring three goals and assisting two. Joao Neves was also a part of the Portuguese squad in the 2024 European Championships. However, he only started one group-stage match against Georgia, where Portugal lost 2-0. He was also substituted during the side's 3-0 victory against Turkey.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in signing Neves this summer. Additionally, they will also negotiate regarding Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte to join Manchester United in the summer. Joao Neves has a release clause of £100 million and he mainly plays as a defensive midfielder.
Defender duo to leave Manchester United in summer: Reports
Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof can leave the Old Trafford outfit this summer, as per Football Insider senior correspondent Pete O'Rourke.
Manchester United have confirmed the signing of LOSC Lille defender Leny Yoro. As per the aforementioned report, the Red Devils are looking forward to signing another central defender in the upcoming weeks.
As a result, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire are expected to leave Manchester United before August 31. The Swedish defender has entered the last year of his contract with the Red Devils, while Maguire's contract will end in summer 2025.
Lindelof joined United from Benfica for a reported transfer fee of £30 million in 2017. Since then, he has made 259 appearances for the Red Devils across seven different seasons. Meanwhile, former captain Harry Maguire became the most expensive defender in history when United signed him from Leicester City for a reported £78.3 million.
Since joining the Red Devils, the Englishman had made 206 appearances, bagging 11 goals and seven assists. Apart from the two, Aaron Wan-Bissaka can also leave Old Trafford in the summer, as he's connected with West Ham United.
