Manchester United add three strikers to transfer shortlist as they look to bolster attack: Reports
Manchester United have reportedly added three strikers to their transfer shortlist for this summer as they look to improve their attacking lineup at Old Trafford. These strikers are 23-year-old Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee, 24-year-old Lille forward Jonathan David, and 28-year-old Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
Currently, the Red Devils are left with only one main striker in Rasmus Hojlund, who only joined up from Atalanta last summer. Anthony Martial, the only other striker in the first-team squad, has struggled with injury, failing to meet expectations since his mega-move in 2015.
Now, Manchester United are looking to add depth to the position, and they have three strikers on their radar. Ivan Toney is the only one who has played and performed well in England, scoring 38 goals in 83 Premier League games for Brentford. He will have the least issue adapting to life at Old Trafford, playing at the same level.
The case is a bit different for Joshua Zirkzee and Jonathan David. However, they are both impressive strikers in their own right. Zirkzee has scored 11 goals and created 5 assists in 34 Serie A appearances for Bologna. David has scored goals and created assists in Ligue 1 appearances for Lille.
Former Premier League goalkeeper suggests Manchester United co-owners INEOS are waiting for next manager's availability
There are now numerous reports that Manchester United co-owners INEOS have decided to retain Erik ten Hag as the head coach of the club. This comes after weeks of uncertainty, following a topsy-turvy season that saw the Dutch manager win the FA Cup but come 8th place in the Premier League.
The manager also led the Red Devils to a group exit in the UEFA Champions League, but the club hierarchy has reportedly decided to stick with him. However, former Premier League goalkeeper Shaka Hislop believes that INEOS is only playing the waiting game for the right manager to become available.
He said (via HITC):
“There are a couple of ways you can look at this from a Manchester United perspective. Maybe look at the struggles others have had in filling their managerial vacancies. You wonder and worry about getting caught up in that quagmire.
“Your preferred option isn’t available until, at least pre-season, and probably November if you are more realistic. I disagree, I have no issue with, if your preferred option is available in November, it’s not writing a season off, it’s writing the first three months off. If that’s who you are determined to get."
He went on to question the rumored decision to retain Ten Hag, stating that he "simply can’t get past" handing the Dutch head coach a new contract.
