Manchester United and Arsenal set to battle for PL midfielder’s signature - Reports

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Danilo, who's also garnered interest from Arsenal. The Brazilian midfielder is likely to cost around €40 million.

Both Premier League giants are active in the transfer market and looking to strengthen their midfield. The Red Devils didn't trigger Sofyan Amrabat's buy option after his loan spell from Fiorentina last season. Moreover, there is speculation about Scott McTominay's future, with Fulham interested.

Hence, as per TNT Sports (via TBR Football), Manchester United are interested in signing Danilo. The defensive midfielder joined Nottingham Forest from Palmeiras in January 2023. He's made 49 appearances for them, scoring six goals and providing four assists.

As per HITC, Arsenal have also been monitoring Danilo for a while and were interested in him even before he joined Nottingham. They still hold that interest and could move for him if they fail in their attempt to sign Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.

The Gunners saw Mohamed Elneny leave as a free agent earlier this summer and there have been doubts regarding Thomas Partey's future at the club. They've also sold Emile Smith Rowe and hence, are looking to strengthen their midfield.

Danilo's contract with Nottingham expires in 2029 and he is likely to cost around €40 million. AC Milan are also interested in the Brazilian's services.

Former Arsenal star Theo Walcott opens up on Manchester United target: Reports

The Red Devils have been linked with a move for Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt. As per journalist David Ornstein, they are set to sign him for €50 million, including add-ons. This comes after Manchester United had already signed Leny Yoro earlier this summer after Raphael Varane left as a free agent.

Former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott recently said that he saw De Ligt as a good option for the Gunners. He said on BBC Radio 5 Live (via TBR Football):

“When it was talked about him coming to the Premier League, he is the sort of player I thought oh Arsenal could do with someone like him, especially when they were going through the transition of centre-halves not being as strong.
“But yeah I am looking forward to seeing what he is going to provide (at Manchester United).”

De Ligt has played for Ajax and Juventus in the past and joined Bayern Munich from the latter in 2022. He made 73 appearances for them across competitions.
