Manchester United enter race to sign €70m-rated Real Madrid transfer target: Reports
According to Fichajes, Real Madrid and Manchester United are set to compete for the signature of Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro. The Spanish defender has emerged as a target for the two sides hoping to strengthen their backline in the upcoming transfer window.
Los Blancos are in a sticky situation at right-back after Dani Carvajal suffered a severe injury that ruled him out for the rest of the ongoing season. The Red Devils, on the other hand, are keen to reunite the defender with his former Sporting boss, Ruben Amorim.
The north London side, however, are famously tough negotiators and have reportedly slapped a €70 million pricetag on the defender.
Pedro Porro joined the Lilywhites for a reported €40 million fee from Sporting Club de Portugal in 2023 and is contracted with them till the summer of 2025. He has played 67 times for the Premier League side, scoring eight and assisting 12 goals in the process.
Toni Kroos reveals why he chose Real Madrid over Manchester United
Earlier this year in September, Real Madrid legend Toni Kroos revealed that he nearly joined Manchester United in the summer of 2014. The English giants courted the German and even had a deal in place before he chose to move to Santiago Bernabeu.
Kroos is a bonafide Los Blancos legend, spending a decade at the club, playing 465 games, scoring 28 times, and providing 99 assists. Speaking about his scrapped move to the English giants in an interview with Sport, the 2014 World Cup winner said:
"In 2014, before I signed with Real Madrid, I had already agreed with Manchester United. That would have been a move from Bayern to United. But then they kicked out David Moyes, who I was still sitting on my couch with in Munich and hired Louis van Gaal. Then we both declined with thanks."
Kroos won every available trophy in club football during his time in the Spanish capital. He claimed five UEFA Champions League crowns, four LaLiga titles, and one Copa del Rey to retire in 2024 as a legend of the iconic club.
