Manchester United expecting to receive formal bids for veteran midfielder - Reports

According to Sky Sports' Dharmesh Sheth, Manchester United are expecting offers for Christian Eriksen during the remainder of the summer transfer window. The Dane, a part of the Red Devils since 2022, is in the final year of his contract.

Midfield recruitment is a priority for the Red Devils, as Sheth suggests. Manuel Ugarte has long been the most-desired target while Sander Berge and Sofyan Amrabat have also been mentioned on the shortlist.

Eriksen, meanwhile, joined the club on a free transfer after leaving Brentford in 2022. He had an impactful first season, helping the club win the EFL Cup and secure a top-four finish. He made 44 appearances across competitions in his first season, scoring twice and providing 10 assists. Eriksen started 37 of those matches.

His game time, though, reduced drastically during the 2023-24 campaign. Eriksen played only 28 games across competitions, starting 14 of them. He scored once and provided three assists in those matches. The emergence of midfield prodigy Kobbie Mainoo also saw Eriksen pushed down the pecking order.

The former Tottenham Hotspur man is now 32 and is in the final year of his contract. Journalist Dean Jones previously told GiveMeSport that Eriksen is unhappy with Manchester United and could look to move on.

Hence, the Red Devils could look to sell him this summer rather than lose him for free next year. Given he joined as a free agent, any sum gained from a sale would add to revenue.

Christian Eriksen's comments on his Manchester United future

Christian Eriksen has already clarified about being unhappy with his game time at Manchester United. In an interview with Tipsalbet in March, the Dane claimed that he's had a chat with manager Erik ten Hag on the same.

Once a linchpin, Eriksen didn't play a role of the same stature last season. However, he is ready to step up when called upon. He said (via United in Focus):

"I have had a conversation with Erik about being unhappy with the situation and wanting to play as much as possible, but I am available and need to be available for the team, which I am and always will be."

Kobbie Mainoo is touted as the next big thing at Manchester United while captain Bruno Fernandes is an omnipresent part of the first XI. Casemiro hasn't been at his mercurial best but Eriksen is not a like-for-like replacement of the Brazilian. Hence, the cloud over his future and game time continues to hang.
