Manchester United eye move for German defender as they look to bolster squad - Reports

Manchester United have set their sights on RB Leipzig left-back David Raum, according to Sky Sport Germany. The German defender is currently out with an ankle injury and hasn't played since October.

New Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim has identified the left-back position as one that requires urgent attention. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia recently returned from long layoffs due to injuries, but there remain concerns about their long-term fitness.

The Portuguese manager is targeting an upgrade in 2025, preferably in January or in the summer. Multiple players have been named for the job, including Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies and AC Milan's Theo Hernandez.

Raum has also emerged as an option. Manchester United were also linked with the 26-year-old this summer, although a move failed to materialize. His playing style makes him a fine fit in Amorim's 3-4-3 system.

The German left-back registered three goals and 13 assists in 40 games for Leipzig last season. His contract with the Bundesliga club expires in 2027, so the Red Devils may have to pay a sizeable fee to get their man.

The English giants will also face competition from Bayern Munich for the player. The Bavarians are sweating on the future of Alphonso Davies, whose contract expires at the end of this season.

For now, the two European heavyweights are likely to monitor David Raum.

Manchester United have enjoyed a steady start under Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese took over as the new Red Devils head coach on November 11.

He started his tenure with a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on November 24 in the Premier League. Last week (November 28), Manchester United secured a hard-fought 3-2 home win over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League.

It was Amorim's first appearance as the Red Devils boss at Old Trafford and also his first win. The Portuguese followed it up with a 4-0 win over Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday (December 1) in the Premier League.

Amorim has managed to improve his strikers' form so far. Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have scored two goals, while Alejandro Garnacho has also found the back of the net once.

Marcus Rashford has scored three goals in three games, hinting at a revival. Manchester United next face Arsenal at the Emirates on Wednesday (December 4) in the Premier League.
