Manchester United hold talks to sign two Bayern Munich stars as squad rebuild continues: Reports

Manchester United have reportedly begun talks with agent Rafaela Pimenta to sign Bayern Munich pair Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

The Red Devils, who finished eighth in the Premier League standings past season, are currently reshaping their ranks under new co-owners INEOS Group. They have signed Leny Yoro in a potential £59 million deal and Joshua Zirkzee for around £36 million this summer.

Now, according to reliable reporter Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have held talks with Pimenta to check both De Ligt and Mazraoui's availabilities of late. While the former has been linked with United for a while, the Moroccan is keen to join the Red Devils soon.

However, Mazraoui's potential move to Erik ten Hag's side is thought to depend on Aaron Wan-Bissaka's exit this summer. The Red Devils have allegedly considered a swap deal involving Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries and are also monitoring AS Monaco's Vanderson.

Both De Ligt and Mazraoui have previously plied their trades under Ten Hag during their respective stints at Ajax. While the centre-back made 70 overall appearances under the Manchester United boss, the versatile right-back featured in 137 outings under the Dutchman.

Should De Ligt secure a move to the Red Devils this summer, he would emerge as a first-team starter for them. He has scored five goals and laid out two assists in 73 games in all competitions for Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, Mazraoui would offer great competition to Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw on both flanks should he join United. He has contributed one goal and eight assists in 55 appearances for the Bavarians so far.

Dean Saunders states Manchester United's lack of sales is hurting Erik ten Hag's plans

Speaking on talkSPORT, ex-Liverpool striker Dean Saunders has claimed that the Red Devils' struggles to sell players have put manager Erik ten Hag in a tight spot. He said (h/t HITC):

"Because the [players] are earning so much money [at United], it becomes even more difficult to find those clubs. And now we see Harry Maguire, who I think, could have gone to five different clubs and Luke Shaw is playing centre-half instead of him."

Saunders, who also played for Aston Villa and Benfica, concluded:

"I feel sorry for Ten Hag who has had to deal with a lot of issues, whether it's with [Marcus] Rashford or [Jadon] Sancho and I don't think his job has been made any easier."

So far, Manchester United have offloaded Mason Greenwood, Donny van de Beek, Willy Kambwala, and Alvaro Fernandez this summer.

Manchester United also recently released Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial, Omari Forson, Shola Shoretire, and Brandon Williams as well.
