Manchester United identify 3 candidates as pressure mounts on Erik ten Hag - Reports
Manchester United are reportedly weighing up their options should they part ways with Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman is under massive pressure at Old Trafford, and things have gotten worse for the manager following the Red Devils' recent Premier League loss to Tottenham.
As per a report in TBR Football, Manchester United have a three-man shortlist ready as they eye replacements. The report claims that Thomas Tuchel, Gareth Southgate and Graham Potter are the managers they are keeping tabs on right now.
All three managers are free agents at the moment and were linked with the Old Trafford job in the summer. However, the Red Devils opted to stick with Ten Hag and extended his deal at the club.
Tuchel was sacked by Bayern Munich, who replaced him with Vincent Kompany. He held talks with the Red Devils in the summer, but did not take the job.
Potter has been without a club since being sacked by Chelsea. Ajax and Leicester City reportedly held talks with him, but he opted not to take up the jobs.
Southgate has also been a free agent since the summer, when he left the England national team job. He has been backed to be the next manager at Manchester United by several pundits but is yet to show interest.
Manchester United were urged to sacked Erik ten Hag by Richard Keys
Richard Keys was not happy with Erik ten Hag's comments about Manchester United earlier this month and called for the club to sack the manager. He claimed that the Dutchman was not acting like a manager of a top club and wrote in his blog:
“Here’s the good news for United fans. And I’m quoting the manager ‘You can see the xG we didn’t concede as many goals. I don’t think we are in the same pattern’. Nope. Nor me. I’ve no idea. But I guess it means something to somebody and it might just be encouraging if it does."
“Anyway. The interview went on like this ‘we stick together. And in the second half we show some resilience’. What? Your team was hopeless in both halves. How many times have I said he lives in a parallel universe? It’s embarrassing. Remember – this is Manchester United. I’d sack him now. No. I’d have sacked him in the summer. Maybe even before that. He’s not the right man to manage United. He’s reducing them to a laughing stock. ‘I’m not Harry Potter,’ he went on to tell reporters. He’s right. I’d say more Graham Potter!”
Manchester United have won just two of their first six Premier League matches this season. They sit 12th in the table and could slip to 13th if Bournemouth beat Southampton on Monday.
