Manchester United make €45 million bid to sign midfielder who rejected Chelsea last summer - Reports
Manchester United have reportedly made a verbal offer worth €45 million to Paris Saint-Germain for the transfer of midfielder Manuel Ugarte, who was previously linked with Chelsea. The Red Devils are interested in signing the Uruguayan midfielder, who is keen on moving to Old Trafford as per journalist Ben Jacobs.
PSG signed Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2023 amid interest from Chelsea, who led the race to sign him for most of the window. The Blues were left disappointed after the Uruguay international decided to join the French champions when they came calling.
The 23-year-old is set to move again this summer as Manchester United intend on adding him to their squad. Erik ten Hag's side are keen on adding another midfielder this summer, and they have an agreement in place on personal terms with Ugarte.
PSG slapped a €60 million price tag on the defensive midfielder, but Ben Jacobs reports that the Red Devils have made a verbal offer of €45 million.
Ugarte has been waiting for weeks for both sides to find an agreement on a transfer fee as he is keen to move to England. Les Parisiens manager Luis Enrique did not particularly trust Ugarte in his debut season at the club, playing him only 25 times in Ligue 1.
The manager left Ugarte out of the squad for their 2024-25 league opener as the midfielder looks to sort out his future before the end of the transfer window.
Manchester United make winning start to 2024-25 season
Manchester United picked up a hard-earned win at Old Trafford to kick off their 2024-25 Premier League season, defeating Fulham 1-0 to claim all three points.
Erik ten Hag handed a debut to Noussair Mazraoui at right-back only days after he joined, with fellow new signings Matthijs De Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee on the bench. The Moroccan shone on his debut, showing proficiency at both ends of the pitch.
Zirkzee was the match-winner for the Red Devils as he converted a low cross from Alejandro Garnacho on his league debut in the 87th minute. Garnacho missed a golden chance to double their advantage minutes later when he missed an open goal after a pass from Marcus Rashford.
The Red Devils will face Brighton & Hove Albion in their second league game on August 24.
