Manchester United make Sofyan Amrabat transfer decision ahead of 2024/25 season - Reports
Manchester United have reportedly informed Fiorentina that they won't be signing Sofyan Amrabat permanently. The Morrocan midfielder spent last season on loan at Old Trafford.
TuttomercatoWEB.com reports that Amrabat is returning to La Viola because the Red Devils have opted not to make his loan permanent. He has made himself available for the Serie A side's new manager, Raffaele Palladino, ahead of pre-season.
Amrabat, 27, joined Manchester United last summer for a loan fee of £8.5 million with a view to a permanent £21.4 million deal. He struggled to make a significant impact for most of the season as he was used as a makeshift full-back.
The Morrocco international impressed in the latter stages of the campaign and was handed a starting role in the FA Cup final. He played an important role in the Red Devils' 2-1 unlikely win against Manchester City at Wembley. That was one of 30 appearances across competitions.
Amrabat could still be on the move despite United deciding against signing him permanently. He's receiving interest from other Premier League clubs and will likely leave Fiorentina this summer. He has a year left on his contract at Artemio Franchi Stadium.
Sofyan Amrabat reportedly wanted to stay at Manchester United
Sofyan Amrabat's time at Manchester United has seemingly ended after the club opted not to make his loan move permanent. He was eager to join the Red Devils last summer but perhaps didn't get a fair chance at flourishing to his best at Old Trafford.
United We Stand writer Andy Mitten claims Amrabat wanted to stay at United in a feature for The National. He points to the Moroccan's dedication to joining Erik ten Hag's side last summer, training himself at Fiorentina.
Amrabat received interest from eight clubs in England, Italy, Spain, and Saudi Arabia. Liverpool were touted as a potentially interested suitor, but he waited for Manchester United to swoop.
The Red Devils are undergoing a major rebuild led by their new co-owners INEOS. Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee and French teenage defender Leny Yoro have arrived at Old Trafford.
Manchester United's decision over Amrabat suggests they are pushing forward with plans to sign PSG's Manuel Ugarte. The Uruguayan has been identified as their next target to help bolster Ten Hag's midfield, and he's reportedly agreed on personal terms.
Ugarte, 23, isn't the only midfielder on United's shortlist as they study several other options. The Telegraph reports that Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi, 25, is also under consideration after a superb season that led to his place in Spain's squad for Euro 2024.
