Manchester United placed on red alert as Lille star Angel Gomes makes decision on future: Reports
Manchester United target Angel Gomes is reportedly set to leave Lille Olympique Sporting Club (LOSC) next summer. The youngster will leave as a free agent upon the expiration of his contract.
Gomes has come into prominence due to his performances with Lille. He's made 124 appearances for them, scoring nine goals and providing 19 assists. His impressive performances also saw him earn his first England call-up last month. He featured in both of the Three Lions' UEFA Nations League games in September and one in October, providing an assist.
Gomes started his career in Manchester United's academy and also made 10 senior appearances for them. He then joined Lille on a free transfer in 2021 and has been excellent since. As per L'Equipe (via Get French Football News), Gomes is now set to leave LOSC next summer.
His contract expires next summer and there are no signs of a potential extension. He will be open to signing a pre-contract with foreign clubs in January 2025 for a potential summer transfer. Manchester United have been heavily linked with the 24-year-old and could look to bring him back.
Manchester United star linked with a move away in January: Reports
As per Football365, Joshua Zirkzee is considering a move back to Italy despite joining Manchester United only this summer. He is open to a loan move, with Juventus interested in signing him.
The Red Devils signed Zirkzee from Bologna for a reported fee of around €42 million in the summer. He scored on his debut for the club in a 1-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford in the Premier League. However, the Dutchman hasn't scored in 10 games across competitions since then.
Former Italy striker Paolo Di Canio had also recently urged United to let Zirkzee leave in January, saying:
"I would loan Zirkzee from Manchester United. They’ve been making crazy choices for several years and none of them are working, not even Zirkzee who’s a bit too slow for the Premier League. Perhaps he’ll prove me wrong with goals and great performances, but in England, they attack you straight away and whistle 30 per cent fewer fouls...
“He’d be the perfect profile for Juventus, also because it would allow Motta to have a striker with different characteristics to [Dusan] Vlahovic. Zirkzee isn’t a devastating scorer, he’s not someone who can score 25 goals, but he helps others play well.”
Zirkzee made 57 appearances in Serie A for Bologna and Parma, recording 13 goals and seven assists.
