Manchester United in pole position to sign France star if he leaves current club in the future - Reports
Manchester United would reportedly be at "front of the queue" to sign Michael Olise if he decides to leave Bayern Munich in the future. The French winger joined the Bundesliga giants this summer from Crystal Palace in a deal reportedly worth £60 million.
The Bavarians, however, were not the only club interested in signing Olise. According to Daily Mail journalist Sami Mokbel, Manchester United desperately wanted to sign the winger and were ready to enlist the help of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The report claims that they remain interested in the Frenchman and could enter the fray if he decides to leave Germany. Mokbel wrote in his column:
"Olise was set on Bayern - although United would be at front of the queue if the France international decides to leave in the future."
The Red Devils have made a slow start to the Premier League season. They find themselves in the 14th spot after losing their last two matches, the latest of which was a 3-0 loss against arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Manchester United target Olise gets first France call-up
Michael Olise received a first international call-up to the senior side for France's upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures.
Olise represented the French Under-23 team at the 2024 Olympics held in Paris this summer under manager Thierry Henry. His progression over the last year has not gone unnoticed, with Les Blues manager Didier Deschamps including the 22-year-old in the senior squad.
Speaking to the press ahead of France's match against Italy, Deschamps said that Olise's move to Bayern helped him move to the next level.
"Michael did very good things with the Olympic team under Thierry Henry," said the France manager (via Bavarian Football Works). "He’s already done well before that although he unfortunately had some injuries. With his move to Bayern Munich, he moved up to another category."
Deschamps spoke about the former Crystal Palace forward's potential and versatility as being key for the national side in the future.
"He proved it on the pitch, so it’s logical that he’s called up. There are still steps to take for him, but as far as potential is concerned, he has a lot of quality. He can play in many different positions across the forward line," he added.
With France set to host Italy and Belgium in the next few days, Olise could end up making his debut for the senior side at home. For Bayern Munich, the winger is expected to be included in the line-up when they travel to Holstein Kiel on September 14 in the Bundesliga.
