Manchester United reach total agreement with Sporting to appoint Ruben Amorim as new head coach; ready to raid Real Madrid for 2 players: Reports
Manchester United have reportedly set sights on two Real Madrid players after reaching a total agreement with Sporting CP to appoint Rubem Amorim as the new manager. The Red Devils will also reportedly bring in two of his assistants from the Portuguese side, with the trio set to take over after the international break.
As per a report in The Athletic, Manchester United are set to pay €11 million to bring Amorim and his two assistants to Old Trafford. The Red Devils are paying the extra €1 million for his two coaches after activating the €10 million release clause in the Portuguese tactician's contract.
Sporting CP confirmed that the Premier League side are activating the clause earlier this week and posted a statement that read (via Reuters):
"Manchester United FC expressed interest in hiring coach Ruben Amorim, with Sporting's board of directors referring to the terms and conditions set out in the employment contract in force between the company and the coach, specifically the respective termination clause and for the amount of Euro 10,000,000 ($10.79m)."
Manchester United have also reportedly set sights on bringing Rodrygo and Eduardo Camavinga from Real Madrid in 2025. Both players are key part of Real Madrid's starting XI under Carlo Ancelotti but INEOS believe they can lure the players away.
But Fichajes report that the Red Devils are readying a massive bid for them as they think Los Blancos will be open to letting them leave for the right price.
TEAMtalk report that Sporting stars Marcus Edwards and Pedro Goncalves are also targets for the Red Devils, along with the Real Madrid duo. Manchester United are keen on getting back on track after sacking Erik ten Hag.
Ruben Amorim on Manchester United links
Ruben Amorim was unwilling to discuss the reported move to Old Trafford in his latest press conference for Sporting. He insisted that the clubs were in talks and nothing had been finalized. He said (via Reuters):
"Nobody knows whether this was my farewell match. Nothing is decided yet. I have nothing to say now, we're analysing here. Anything I say will only create more noise. There's nothing to talk about. There's the club statement, everyone knows about it. It was said by the club. For the rest, we don't know the exact details. We'll see.
"There is an intention on the part of the club [United], which is in talks with Sporting, but it will always be my decision. Talking about it now is just creating noise for the club and this whole situation. I can't promise anything. What I do know is that I'll be at training tomorrow and I'll be preparing for the league game with c on Friday."
Manchester United were reportedly hoping to appoint the manager in time for their upcoming Premier League match against Chelsea.
