Manchester United ready to let senior first-team duo leave the club this summer: Reports
Manchester United are reportedly open to letting Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof leave Old Trafford this summer if they receive significant offers for both centre-backs. The Red Devils are also keen on bolstering their strength in defense, with their main goal being to break into the top four in the Premier League, according to Football Insider.
As per senior transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke, both Maguire and Lindelof's futures at Manchester United are yet to be decided. Raphael Varane departed the club as a free agent earlier this summer. However, the Red Devils recently confirmed the signing of Leny Yoro and will retain the services of veteran Jonny Evans next season after he signed a new one-year deal.
Erik ten Hag and Co. are also reportedly interested in acquiring another central defender to provide competition for the names mentioned above, and Lisandro Martinez. They have already been linked with Matthijs de Ligt amid Maguire and Lindelof entering the final year of their respective contracts at Old Trafford.
Maguire has struggled with being consistent during his time at Manchester United, even losing his captaincy to Bruno Fernandes last year. However, he had a solid 2023-24 campaign, making 31 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Lindelof made 28 appearances in total but missed 22 games due to a hamstring and groin injury.
"Could be the perfect place" - Leny Yoro reveals why he signed for Manchester United
Former Lille centre-back Leny Yoro has stated why he chose to sign for Manchester United despite the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool also holding an interest in acquiring his signature.
The 18-year-old signed a five-year deal with the Red Devils on July 18, with the option of an additional year. United paid an initial reported transfer fee of £52.2 million for Yoro, giving him the No. 15 shirt - which was notably worn by club icon Nemanja Vidic.
Yoro told SPORT (via Madrid Universal):
“From my first conversations with the club, they have given me a clear plan on how I can develop in Manchester as part of this exciting project and they have shown a lot of affection for me and my family. I feel Manchester could be the perfect place for me to fulfil my potential and achieve my ambitions, alongside my new team-mates, and I can’t wait to get started."
After completing the signings of Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee, the Red Devils are allegedly keen on next recruiting PSG star Manuel Ugarte.
