Manchester United set to battle Liverpool and Arsenal for 24-year-old star in January: Reports
Manchester United are locked in a three-horse race with Liverpool and Arsenal for the services of Jonathan David in January, according to Corriere dello Sport. The Canadian striker has entered the final year of his contract with Lille and hasn't signed an extension yet.
David has registered 13 goals and two assists from 18 appearances across competitions for the Ligue 1 side this season. He can sign a pre-contract agreement with potential suitors in January ahead of a possible summer move.
The report adds that Juventus are leading the race for his services. However, the Italian giants will face competition from the Premier League trio for the 24-year-old.
Manchester United remain eager to bolster their attack amid the poor form of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee. The Red Devils are all set to welcome new head coach Ruben Amorim on Monday, November 11, and hope to rope in David as early as the winter.
However, Arsenal and Liverpool also have their eyes on the Canadian. The Gunners and the Reds believe David could add a new dimension to their attack.
Arsenal lack an established No. 9, with Gabriel Jesus failing to impress. Meanwhile, Liverpool are also looking for a conventional No. 9 amid Darwin Nunez's struggles.
How have Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool fared in the Premier League this season?
Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool have endured contrasting fortunes in the Premier League so far. The Reds are flying high under new manager Arne Slot, who took charge this summer.
Liverpool are leading the title race after 10 games with 25 points. Arsenal, meanwhile, have lost ground in the title race of late, despite a decent start to the campaign. The Gunners are fifth in the Premier League table with 18 points and are already seven points behind Liverpool.
Manchester United, on the other hand, have had a season to forget so far. The Red Devils are 13th in the league with 12 points and are already 13 points behind the Reds.
