Manchester United star agrees terms to join Napoli - Reports
Corriere dello Sport have reported that Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has agreed personal terms to join Napoli. The midfielder has been linked with a summer exit and the Serie A club have emerged as a potential destination.
McTominay often played a clutch role for the Red Devils last season and finished the campaign with 10 goals to his name. That hasn't guaranteed him a spot in the team for the 2024-25 season and the club are looking to cash in on the academy product.
Antonio Conte has reportedly asked Napoli to sign the Manchester United midfielder and the club had meetings with the player's agency. Apart from Napoli, teams like Fulham and Galatasaray have also shown their interest.
However, he looks likely to head to Serie A as the current report suggests that the player has agreed to personal terms. McTominay, 27, is currently in the final year of his contract with the Red Devils.
Since his first-team debut, he has racked up 29 goals and eight assists in 254 appearances for the club. McTominay arguably played his best under Jose Mourinho. Conte, another manager who tends to get the best out of players, is looking to use McTominay to his advantage.
However, a key condition in the McTominay heading over to Italy is the £26million asked by United. Napoli reportedly cannot afford this fee and will have to rely on star marksman Victor Osimhen's sale.
United, meanwhile, are looking to bolster their midfield ranks and have been linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain star Manuel Ugarte. With Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, among others, McTominay isn't expected to get too much game time at Old Trafford.
Julien Laurens provides update on Manchester United's Manuel Ugarte pursuit
ESPN reporter Julien Laurens (via Stretty News) has claimed that Manchester United have already had two bids turned down for Manuel Ugarte. After signing Leny Yoro, Joshua ZIrkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui, the Red Devils are looking to add Ugarte.
However, Laurens has claimed that the club are reconsidering their stance on Ugarte due to the Uruguayan's price tag. United need to pay a sum north of £51million for Ugarte.
Laurens has claimed Casemiro has shown improvements from his poor performances last season. Hence, the club are considering if Mainoo and Casemiro can provide what the team need.
If the two players continue to play well, Ugarte might not be an undisputed starter for Manchester United. Hence, the Red Devils are contemplating whether they want to spend a hefty sum for a player who might only be a back-up midfield player.
