Manchester United star sent to hospital after getting involved in Marcus Rashford car crash - Reports
Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia was checked over at the hospital after a suspected drink-driver crashed into Marcus Rashford's car. The English forward was at the wheel of his own Range Rover when a black Mercedes hit it.
The Sun reports that Malacia was given the all-clear after he and Rashford were advised to go to the hospital. The 55-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after police were called in Wilmslow, Cheshire.
Marcus Rashford, 25, and Malacia, 24, returned to training the next day ahead of Manchester United's pre-season tour of the United States. The England international traveled with Erik ten Hag's squad, but the Dutchman was left out of the squad as he continues to recover from a long-term injury.
The car crash happened two days before Rashford was given a six-month driving ban. He sped 104mph in his Rolls Royce on the M60 motorway in December 2023.
Rashford endured a difficult past season, with a lack of form and personal issues taking hold. He was fined a reported £650,000 for calling in sick for training in January after a night out.
Malacia similarly encountered issues. He missed the entire 2023-24 campaign with an injury. He has been rehabilitating his fitness problem since May 2023.
Erik ten Hag backed Manchester United's Marcus Rashford to bounce back
Marcus Rashford received the backing of Erik ten Hag this week amid question marks over his frame of mind. The Manchester United boss was adamant the English attacker can get back to his best (via transfer expert Fabrizio Romano):
"I am confident, I trust Marcus. I 100% believe he can do what he did two years ago in terms of goals and performances. He's capable of it."
Rashford managed eight goals and five assists in 43 games across competitions last season. He'd hit a career-best 30 goals and 10 assists in 56 games across competitions in the 2022-23 campaign.
The Red Devils forward defended himself amid scrutiny over his commitment to Manchester United. He gave an interview about his situation earlier this year:
"I’m not a perfect person. When I make a mistake, I’ll be the first one to put my hand up and say that I need to do better. But if you ever question my commitment to Man United, that’s when I have to speak up."
Rashford could appear for United in their first friendly of their pre-season tour of the United States tomorrow (July 28). They face Arsenal at SoFi Stadium in California.
