Manchester United superstar Casemiro snubs European giants' offer: Reports
Manchester United star Casemiro has reportedly turned down a move to Bayern Munich amid speculation he's set to leave Old Trafford. The veteran Brazilian midfielder's days in North East England look numbered after a frustrating 2023-24 campaign.
Brazilian journalist Eduardo Deconto of Trivela reports that Casemiro has recently held talks with Bayern. He wasn't tempted by the Bundesliga giants' proposal, so he's set to stay at United for now.
Casemiro, 32, appeared 32 times across competitions last season, registering five goals and three assists. He struggled during the closing stages of the campaign, especially in a makeshift center-back role.
Bayern are undergoing a major rebuild following Vincent Kompany's appointment as Thomas Tuchel's successor. They are set to overhaul their midfield with Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka's futures uncertain.
When speculation over a Manchester United departure began, Casemiro hadn't been linked with a European club. He's been hotly tipped to join Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League, perhaps even reuniting with him at Al-Nassr.
Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid in August 2022 for £72 million and was excellent in his debut season. He has two years left on his contract with the Red Devils.
AS Monaco's Youssouf Fofana is reportedly eyed as Casemiro's replacement at Manchester United
Manchester United are prioritizing signing a new central midfielder this summer after a disappointing season, especially in the middle of the park. Erik ten Hag's side were exposed on several occasions as they finished eighth in the Premier League.
Football 365 cite reports from Spain that claim AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana is a target. The Frenchman is viewed as Casemiro's replacement, and his stock is growing after an impressive season in Ligue 1.
Fofana, 25, appeared 35 times across competitions, posting four goals and as many assists. He is renowned for his physical prowess and likes to break forward in transition. His consistent performances at club level earned him a place in Didier Deschamps' France squad for Euro 2024.
Monaco risk losing Fofana for free next year as he has one year left on his contract. They are prepared to cash in on him at around £25 million, which would be a neat deal for Manchester United.
Kobbie Mainoo, 19, arguably needs a new midfield partner to help give him more protection. The exciting English midfielder's breakout season was a major positive for Ten Hag, but he was exposed at times.
