Manchester United superstar closing in on new deal that will see him receive a wage increase - Reports
Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is reportedly close to agreeing on a new deal with the club, which will see him receive a significant pay rise. The teenage midfielder has established himself as one of the most important players for the Red Devils in the last year.
Mainoo, a boyhood Manchester United fan, made his debut aged just 17 in the Carabao Cup in January 2023. The teenager signed a long-term contract with the club in February 2023, which will run until 2027. Performance-related clauses were put in place in the contract to cater to his growing popularity with the club.
Manchester United are now in formal talks with Mainoo to bump up his salary and hand him a longer contract, according to journalist Steven Railston (via UtdDistrict). The 19-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough 2023-24 campaign, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe is prepared to reward him as a key member of the long-term project.
Kobbie Mainoo scored in the FA Cup final against Manchester City in May to help win the first trophy of his senior career. The youngster was also part of the England squad that reached the final of Euro 2024, featuring in every game from the group stage onwards.
Erik ten Hag trusted Mainoo as a 17-year-old and that has continued this season. He started him in each of his side's seven Premier League games this season. The teenager has also appeared once in the UEFA Europa League.
Mainoo is at Carrington where he is working on his fitness, having pulled out of the England squad for this month's UEFA Nations League games. The young midfielder has, alongside Alejandro Garnacho, been a shining light for Manchester United in the last two seasons.
Manchester United keen to offload veteran midfielder - Reports
Manchester United are looking to get midfielder Casemiro off their books at the earliest opportunity, according to an insider for Football Insider. The Brazilian midfielder has struggled to perform at a consistent level since arriving from Real Madrid in 2022.
Casemiro is one of the highest earners at Old Trafford but has lost his place in the manager's preferred XI due to his poor form in the last year. He earns a whopping £350,000 per week, as per Capology. The emergence of Kobbie Mainoo and the signing of Manuel Ugarte have made it easier to drop the veteran midfielder.
There was reported interest in Casemiro from the Saudi Pro League, but a move never materialised. The 32-year-old is now said to be keen on a move in January or the summer himself, having lost his place in the starting XI this season.
