Manchester United top managerial target Ruben Amorim set for staggering pay rise as he inches closer Red Devils’ hot seat: Reports
Ruben Amirom will reportedly more than triple his wages if he becomes Manchester United's new manager. The Portuguese tactician has emerged as the Red Devils' top target to replace Erik ten Hag.
talkSPORT reports that United's offer to Amorim will triple the wages he earns at Sporting CP. He's said to sit on £2.15 million yearly at the Jose Alvalade Stadium and demanded £7 million in talks with West Ham United in the summer.
Manchester United are willing to pay more than this to appoint the Portuguese as Ten Hag's successor. The 39-year-old has two years on his contract with Sporting and has remained tight-lipped over links to the Red Devils (via The Mirror):
"I was already expecting this question, and obviously, I’m not going to talk about the future because otherwise, I’ll always have to comment. I’m very proud to be Sporting coach, that’s all."
Manchester City had also been in the equation, with Amorim seemingly viewed as a potential Pep Guardiola replacement. The Spaniard's contract expires at the end of the season, but the reigning champions have downplayed talk of an Etihad move.
The Red Devils won't just be paying Amorim a handsome fee, but Sporting will also receive over £8 million, per Sky Sports. That's the release clause in the two-time Liga Portugal title-winning coach's contract.
Amorim is one of Europe's most highly coveted coaches. He has implemented an exciting brand of football at Sporting. He plays a 3-4-3 formation that has worked wonders this season. His team is top of Liga Portugal with nine wins in nine. The young tactician has overseen 161 wins in 227 games.
Ruben Amorim expected to be in charge of Manchester United vs Chelsea: Reports
Amorim's first game in charge of Manchester United will likely be against Chelsea on Sunday (November 3). The Red Devils are moving quickly for the Portuguese coach.
The Times reports that interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy is expected to be given one game. The Dutchman will be in the dugout for United's Carabao Cup Round of 16 encounter with Leicester City tomorrow (October 30).
Ten Hag was sacked on Monday, and the team was sitting 14th in the Premier League table. They lost 2-1 away to West Ham on Sunday, their fourth defeat in nine league games.
If Amorim is appointed before the Reds meet Chelsea, he'll get his first taste of one of English football's high-profile games. Enzo Maresca has transformed the West Londoners into top-four contenders with an exciting brand of football.
