Manchester United want to sign Premier League left-back who could be available for cut-price fee: Reports

According to GiveMeSport, Manchester United have made Crystal Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell a summer transfer target. The Red Devils want to sign a new left-back this summer.

They suffered from a lack of options last season as Tyrell Malacia missed the entire term with injury issues. Luke Shaw also suffered an injury and missed a major portion of the season. That saw Diogo Dalot, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Victor Lindelof often forced to play as left-backs.

Hence, Erik ten Hag wants to avoid such a situation in 2024-25 and INEOS have set their sights on Mitchell. The Englishman is entering the final 12 months of his contract at Crystal Palace.

Mitchell, 24, has so far made 144 appearances for Palace, scoring thrice and providing eight assists. Apart from Mitchell, the Red Devils have also been linked with players like Feyenoord's David Hancko and former Chelsea and Barcelona star Marcos Alonso.

Mitchell, meanwhile, currently earns a reported £40,000 at Crystal Palace and with his contract expiring in 2025, he could be available for a cut-price deal. Manchester United have already signed Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirzkee and are linked with a move for Manuel Ugarte.

Stuart Pierce questions Manchester United's interest in Tyrick Mitchell

One man who knows a thing or two about being a full-back is England legend Stuart Pierce. Pierce recently told talkSPORT that Luke Shaw, when fit, is one of the best full-backs in the world.

However, he is doubtful about the Red Devils' reported interest in Mitchell, pointing out that the 24-year-old is not an international player. Pierce said on talkSPORT (via United in Focus):

"Mitchell has certainly been grabbing the headlines. But Gareth [Southgate] didn't see fit to take him with the England squad. So you're talking about a player that isn't an international player, so I don't know."

Mitchell, though, has already gained ample experience in the Premier League with Palace. The Crystal Palace academy product caught the eye with his performances in 2023-24.
