Marseille working on deal to sign Arsenal star after snapping up Mason Greenwood from Manchester United: Reports

Ligue 1 side Marseille are reportedly working on a deal to secure the services of Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah this summer. The news comes in after the French outfit completed the signing of attacker Mason Greenwood from Manchester United.

Unlike Greenwoord's signing, L’Equipe claims that Marseille are looking to bring Nketiah in on a loan deal, with an obligation to buy him at the end of this spell. The reason that the club are doing so is due to the hefty sum they would have to shell out to bring the player in on a permanent transfer this summer.

However, the report clarifies that the Gunners' stance on whether they are willing to listen to offers for the England international remains unclear. Should they choose to sell their academy product, it wouldn't necessarily be a huge blow to Mikel Arteta.

With Kai Havertz leading the line towards the end of last season and doing so for Germany at Euro 2024, he is likely to be the first-choice striker this year. On top of that, Arsenal can turn to Gabriel Jesus should they wish to look for a different option.

Leandro Trossard is more than capable of playing as a false nine, which makes Nketiah's role fairly negligible. Moreover, the player himself would want to secure regular game time after making just 10 Premier League starts last season.

Overall, the 25-year-old has made 168 appearances across competitions for Arsenal's senior team, bagging 38 goals and seven assists.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has warned interested clubs that Ivan Toney will be an expensive buy in the summer. The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United have been linked with a move for the striker.

It is believed that the Bees will be looking for around £50 million to let Toney go with one year left on his deal with the club. Speaking to Sky Sports, Frank said (via Metro):

"I know he's a Brentford player. I know he's enjoying his well-deserved time off after his time with England."
"I would be more than happy if he stayed with us. He's a goalscorer that's very good to have in your team so if you want to buy him, it's expensive," he added.

Toney has made 85 appearances so far in the Premier League, bagging 36 goals and 11 assists. If the English striker remains with the Bees beyond the summer, they could risk losing him for free in 2025.
