Mikel Arteta prepared to launch move for Arsenal to sign 24-year-old star from Premier League rivals Manchester City: Reports
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez in the summer transfer window. This is according to El Nacional, who believe that the Argentina international is not satisfied with the minutes he's receiving at the Etihad Stadium.
However, it isn't just the Gunners who are showing an interest in the attacker, with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Atletico Madrid also said to be looking at him. With the amount of competition for Alvarez's services, the north Londoners may have to move quickly.
Moreover, the 24-year-old may just be the kind of play that Arteta is looking for, given he can cover multiple positions. Alvarez can play as a central striker, where Kai Havertz is likely to start the season and can also be deployed in wide areas.
Without a sure-shot left winger, there is an opportunity for the Argentinian to lock down that position as well. Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are fighting for minutes on that flank.
On top of that, Arsenal have shown that they're now capable of challenging for the Premier League and UEFA Champions League. They finished only two points behind champions Manchester City in the English top flight last year.
In the previous season, Alvarez lost his starting role towards the end of the campaign, and this trend could continue. Erling Haaland will be starting down the middle, with Bernardo Silva and Jeremy Doku potentially playing in wide areas.
Pep Guardiola can also turn to the likes of Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, and Oscar Bobb to play as wingers.
Arsenal handed boost in race to sign Victor Osimhen: Reports
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Napoli striker Victor Osimhen wants to leave the club this summer amid interest from Arsenal (via The Boot Room). However, the Gunners will have to see off competition from PSG and Chelsea for his signature.
The fact that the Nigeria international wants an out became more apparent following his team's 4-0 friendly win against Egnatia on Sunday (July 28). Antonio Conte left the striker out for that match, and the latter did not even make the bench.
At the Emirates, Arsenal are lacking an out-and-out number nine and Osimhen could be the right fit. To date, the 25-year-old forward has made 133 appearances across competitions for Napoli, bagging 76 goals and 18 assists.
