Premier League club wants to sign Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku this summer: Reports
Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing a move for Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku in the summer. The Magpies want to strengthen their squad with the possibility of playing in the Champions League next season.
As per a report in Fichajes, Newcastle United are the latest to show interest in Lukaku. Eddie Howe is pushing for the move despite having Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson in his squad as he wants more firepower.
Chelsea are yet to make a decision on his future, as they are waiting for the incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino to take charge. The Belgian wants to remain at Inter, but another loan away from Stamford Bridge looks unlikely.
Todd Boehly and co accepted a loan move away last summer as the Belgian was unwilling to work under Thomas Tuchel. With the German sacked, the chances of the striker playing again for Chelsea have increased.
Inter are trying to agree on a deal for Lukaku, while reports suggest PSG and Atletico Madrid are also keen on the Belgian.
Romelu Lukaku was told not to join Chelsea by Thierry Henry
Thierry Henry had warned Romelu Lukaku from joining Chelsea as he did not think the striker would be a success at Stamford Bridge.
The Frenchman revealed that the Belgian was not suited for Tuchel's style and said on CBS Sports:
"We had a discussion when he went to Chełsea and I told him he's going to find it difficult to play at Chełsea, and it turned out to be the case."
When asked why he thought the move was wrong, Henry added:
"Because of the way Tuchel likes to play. Pressing and pressing, you're the nine, I'm the nine, you're the winger, I'm the winger - you interchange. Rom likes to stay where he is, feed him, play him in early and he will try to bully you, turn, stay in the box, crosses - he's a different type of nine to what Tuchel wanted."
Henry believes Lukaku will push to stay at Inter and said:
"Now, is he going to fit what Potter is trying to do? They're struggling with that without him in the squad. What does he want to do? I don't think he wants to go back, that's the main thing I think he wants to stay at Inter. That's why there's going to be maybe a little clash if they want him back. I think he wants to stay there."
Lukaku's Inter Milan will face Premier League champions Manchester City in the final of the UEFA Champions League 2022-23 on June 10, 2023.
