Premier League giants keen on signing Cristiano Ronaldo's 17-year-old teammate: Reports

Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly interested in roping in Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal teammate Geovany Quenda.

Quenda, 17, has cemented himself as one of the hottest Portuguese talents since the turn of the year. He helped Portugal reach the UEFA U17 European Championship final earlier this May and has recently been handed an international call-up to the senior team.

Owing to his standout performances for Sporting CP's U23 side, Quenda was also promoted to his boyhood club's senior side earlier this summer. He has started all five of his team's appearances across competitions this season, registering a goal and an assist so far.

Now, according to Portuguese newspaper Record, Manchester City have identified Quenda as one of the potential stars of the future. The Cityzens' scouts have been blown away by the winger's rise to prominence.

Meanwhile, Quenda has already acquainted himself with Ronaldo in his national team's camp. During a recent press conference, the Portugal captain elaborated (h/t GOAL):

"I saw the new boy, 17 years old, Quenda. I went to him and said: 'So, have you recovered from the game?'. I saw that he was embarrassed. I don't say I'm a father, but an older brother. I've been through the same thing as them and the national team is a family."

Manchester City, on the other hand, will next be in action in a Premier League home contest against Brentford on Saturday (September 14).

Premier League star shares his thoughts on playing with Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo

Earlier this Thursday (September 5), Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 900th career goal to help Portugal beat Croatia 2-1 in Lisbon in a Group A clash of the UEFA Nations League.

After the end of the encounter, Portugal and Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot was asked to opine on witnessing the 39-year-old at his best again. He replied to Portuguese outlet O Jogo:

"It's special. Above all, it's a privilege to still be able to spend time with him. In these moments, I try to make the most of all the experience he has to give me, both in football and beyond. And as I usually say, I like to squeeze the most out of him to try to get what's good for me and for us."

Congratulating Ronaldo for his recent milestone, Dalot concluded:

"And I think it's a privilege for all of us to be able to watch, to see that he's still dynamic, with a great passion for playing for the national team, because that's commendable. And congratulations on yet another record."

Both Ronaldo and Dalot are expected to be in action in Portugal's UEFA Nations League match against Scotland on Sunday (September 8).
