Premier League side to give tough competition to Chelsea for striker with 13 goals this season - Reports
West Ham United are set to challenge Premier League rivals Chelsea for the services of in-form Bundesliga striker Serhou Guirassy according to Football Insider.
The striker has been a revelation for FC Stuttgart, going by his impeccable goal-scoring form in the ongoing 2023-24 Bundesliga campaign. Guirassy already leads the scoring charts in the Bundesliga with 13 goals after just seven games. He is five goals ahead of Harry Kane of Bayern Munich, who has netted eight league goals this season.
Guirassy's form in front of goal is already attracting interest from a couple of clubs in Europe, with one of them being West Ham. The Hammers reportedly want to relieve the goal-scoring burden on Jarrod Bowen who already has five league goals this season.
The Premier League club are also keen on signing a replacement for former striker Gianluca Scamacca, who left the club for Atalanta this summer after just one season with the Hammers.
Meanwhile, West Ham's rivals Chelsea were also keen on signing the Guniea international in 2020 when he was at Amiens SC in 2020. However, Guirassy turned down the opportunity to join the Blues and opted to sign for French club Stade Rennais instead, sighting regular game time as a reason.
It will be interesting to see if Chelsea will eventually revive their interest in the striker in the upcoming transfer window.
Mauricio Pochettino heaps praise on Chelsea star who has made a decent start to the season
English forward Cole Palmer has seamlessly adapted to his new club, following his £42.5 million move from Manchester City towards the end of the summer transfer window. The 21-year-old didn't waste much time in showing his qualities in the Blues' first-team and has been a key figure in attack for head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
The Argentine tactician has already lauded Palmer's contribution to the Blues, thus labeling the left-footed forward as 'unpredictable' during a recent interview with the club's official channel. In his words, the Chelsea head coach said:
"Cole Palmer is a good link player and links with all his teammates. We are giving him a starting position on the right to play in between the lines because he is ready to be unpredictable.
He continued:
"Football is a game where you need to be unpredictable and he has the capacity to do this.”
Palmer has already registered one goal and two assists for the Blues this season. He got his first goal in the side's last Premier League game away to Burnley.
