PSG enter race to sign Arsenal and Manchester United target with €120m release clause: Reports
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have reportedly joined Arsenal and Manchester United in the race to sign Benfica midfielder Joao Neves. However, he isn't the only option on their list despite a strong interest.
Neves, 19, came through Benfica's academy and impressed with his performances last season. The defensive midfielder made 55 appearances across competitions and also registered three goals and two assists. His performances have seen him garner plenty of interest from clubs across Europe.
As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, PSG have now joined the list of clubs interested in signing Neves alongside Arsenal and Manchester United. The Parisians saw Marco Verratti leave last summer and while they have Vitinha, they would like to strengthen their midfield further.
Arsenal, meanwhile, parted ways with Mohamed Elneny this summer while Thomas Partey's future at the club is also under speculation. Manchester United could also see a few departures in midfield this summer with Casemiro linked with a move away. Sofyan Ambrabat is also expected to return to Fiorentina after his loan spell.
Hence, all three clubs are heavily interested in signing Neves but it won't come at at a cheap price. He is contracted with Benfica until 2028 and the Portuguese side are insistent that anyone willing to sign him should pay his enormous €120 million release clause.
PSG, Arsenal and Manchester United target opens up about his future
AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana recently shared his thoughts on his future at the club, amidst reported of a potential departure. The Frenchman has just one year left on his contract with Le Rocher and the club are open to listening to offers for him this summer.
Arsenal, PSG and Manchester United have all been linked with a potential move for Fofana. He could be available for around £20 million. In a recent press conference, the 25-year-old said about his situation (via The Standard):
“I have spoken about it with the hierarchy, it isn’t a secret. We had exchanges and they agreed to accompany me in this new stage.
“If [a move] doesn’t happen, I still have a year left and I will be happy to stay. We were in agreement that we would accompany each other in this process in which everyone should be a winner, be it me or the club.”
Fofana joined Monaco from Strasbourg in January 2020. He has since made 175 appearances for them, scoring seven goals and providing 15 assists.
