PSG hold direct talks with Manchester City star's agent over potential move - Reports
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have reportedly held direct talks with Manchester City attacker Julian Alvarez's representatives amid speculation he may leave the Etihad this summer. The Argentine forward has been with the club since January 2022 but could be looking to depart.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the Parisians have been in contact with Alvarez's entourage. The Ligue 1 giants are set to undergo a rebuild following Kylian Mbappe's departure to Real Madrid.
Alvarez, 24, was in fine form last season, posting 19 goals and 13 assists in 54 games across competitions. He enjoyed a more prominent run in Pep Guardiola's first team after a lack of game time during the 2022-23 campaign.
PSG could swoop for Alvarez, who has four years left on his contract. Manchester City's stance is that big money must be paid, and the former River Plate youngster must inform them he wants to go.
Chelsea have also been linked with the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner as they look to bolster their attack. City have reportedly slapped a £80 million price tag on Alvarez amid interest from Stamford Bridge.
Guardiola is a huge admirer of the 29-cap Argentina international and might not want to lose him. The Spanish coach said last season (via TNT Sports):
"Julian is amazing so he’s an extraordinary player and many things help us."
Alvarez joined Manchester City from River Plate two years ago for a mere £14 million. He's won six major trophies, including two Premier League titles.
Atletico Madrid join PSG and Chelsea in pursuit of Manchester City's Julian Alvarez: Reports
Atletico Madrid are also monitoring Alvarez's situation and could look to bring the Argentine to the Wanda Metropolitano. The problem for the La Liga giants is that Manchester City will only consider selling the attacker and aren't interested in a loan deal.
Los Colchoneros can't afford a permanent transfer and were looking at signing the versatile frontman on loan, per Romano. His inner circle has indicated frustration with his first-team opportunities at the Eithad.
The Cityzens still deem Alvarez an important part of their project, and he has a long-term contract. They will not sell for a low fee, so Atletico will unlikely pull off his capture.
PSG are in a good position to afford such a deal as they deal with life without Kylian Mbappe. The French superstar will need replacing as he is the French capital club's all-time top scorer.
