PSG respond to claims suggesting they were ready to make €250 million bid for Barcelona star Lamine Yamal: Reports

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) officials have reportedly responded to Barcelona claiming that they offered €250 million for teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal this summer. The youngster has risen to become one of the most valued players for the Catalan side in recent times.

Yamal's meteoric rise at Barcelona reportedly caught the attention of PSG this summer. The Catalan side recently claimed that the French giants made a gigantic offer worth €250 million for the 17-year-old, although president Joan Laporta rejected it. Laporta's advisor, Enric Masip told El Chiringuito TV (via GOAL):

"The president has already said that he had an offer of €250 million that he had rejected, that he had never considered it. It came from France."

According to reports by French outlet L'Equipe, Paris Saint-Germain have rejected such claims, claiming that Masip's comments were "one million percent" false. The French side also claimed they could never have afforded to make such a massive bid for Lamine Yamal. The report added that PSG advisor Luis Campos enquired about Yamal's situation during the transfer window to keep their "files open."

Yamal rose through the youth ranks of Barca's youth academy, La Masia, and made his senior team debut at 15 years of age. His debut came in April 2023 in a 4-0 LaLiga win against Real Betis. In 67 outings for La Blaugrana, the Spaniard has contributed 13 goals and 17 assists.

He was also key to Spain's victory in the 2024 Euros, scoring a crucial goal in the 2-1 semi-final win against France. He won the Kopa Trophy and ranked eighth in the Ballon d'Or rankings this year.

In an interview on the Barcelona official website this year, Lamine Yamal shared his feelings about his boyhood club, saying (via GOAL):

"I would like to be remembered in the history of Barca as a legend, obviously it would be something incredible to have a legacy and to stay in the minds of the youngsters."

Yamal's current contract with Barcelona ends in 2026. The club is likely to renew his contract soon as the La Masia graduate is considered an integral part of the Catalans' project.

The Spain international has performed exceptionally well under Hansi Flick this season. He has recorded six goals and eight assists in 16 outings across competitions for La Blaugrana. Yamal is currently recovering from an ankle injury but is expected to return to the pitch after the international break.
