Real Madrid attacker rejects offers from MLS and Saudi Arabia to see out rest of his contract: Reports
Eden Hazard has reportedly decided to see out his contract with Real Madrid by rejecting approaches from various clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.
Real Madrid paid Chelsea a fee in the region of €140 million in 2019 to sign Hazard. The Belgian, however, has failed to deliver in Spain, thanks majorly to a host of injuries.
While he has won seven trophies with the La Liga giants, he has been rather underwhelming in his contributions. He has scored just seven goals and provided 12 assists in 76 games in four years.
Hazard, the 2018 FIFA World Cup Silver Ball winner with Belgium, has fallen out of favor at Los Blancos. Despite that, he is keen to stay at the club and see out his contract, which is set to expire in June 2024.
Club president Florentino Perez is also said to be eager to offload the two-time Premier League winner. He is looking to free up the player's wages, which amount to €23 million per season.
According to a Marca report (via 90min), Hazard has rejected offers from Major League Soccer and Saudi Arabia as he intends to stay in Madrid for the 2023-24 season.
He previously confirmed that he will remain at Real Madrid beyond the current season, telling the media:
"I hope to play. It's been a difficult year but it's a year with a very big club. I have a good relationship with the coach and the players. I want to play but I know that's very difficult. I just have to work and hope I can play more."
Eden Hazard considering retirement in 2024 upon Real Madrid contract expiry: Reports
Eden Hazard is reportedly looking to retire from football after his Real Madrid contract expires.
The Belgian winger is reportedly considering hanging up his boots after being sidelined with injury for the majority of the last four seasons. According to Relevo, he will walk away from the sport after the 2023-24 season.
The 32-year-old Belgian has already announced his retirement from international football in 2022. He took to social media and made the announcement after his country was knocked out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
He has made just 10 appearances across competitions this season, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
