Real Madrid believe Liverpool would negotiate a transfer for star man in January - Reports

Real Madrid could reportedly negotiate a transfer for Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold as early as January. His contract expires next summer and he could sign a pre-contract in the summer.

Alexander-Arnold has been at Liverpool since joining the club’s academy at the age of six, steadily progressing through the ranks. Since making his first-team debut under Jurgen Klopp in 2016, he has made over 300 appearances, contributing 19 goals and 83 assists.

However, the England full-back’s contract with his boyhood club is set to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season, and he has yet to sign a new deal. This has drawn interest from several clubs, and starting in January, he will be free to negotiate with foreign teams.

A recent report from The Athletic suggested that Real Madrid have made Alexander-Arnold’s transfer a priority for next summer. According to journalist Jose Felix Diaz, the Spanish club believe that Liverpool could even be open to negotiating a deal for Alexander-Arnold in January for a significant fee.

With Dani Carvajal out for the season due to an ACL injury, Real Madrid are certainly in desperate need of a right-back. As a result, they may enter the market sooner than later. Performances in the coming weeks could reportedly determine whether they pursue negotiations in January.

When Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold addressed his future amid Real Madrid links

Trent Alexander-Arnold is widely regarded as one of the best full-backs in the world, and a potential move to Real Madrid could be monumental given his talent. However, Liverpool supporters will be hoping that the defender extends his contract with the club, considering all he has achieved at the club.

Although Alexander-Arnold has remained tight-lipped about his future, he has expressed that his primary goal is to win trophies. Hence, his future may ultimately depend on that ambition.

“The most important thing is trophies if I’m honest. I want to win trophies. I’m a player who is highly motivated by winning things and being elite. That’s probably the main factor of anything. If you have a personality that’s elite, who wants to win and will do anything to win then that’s what drives them,” he said last month. (via Yahoo Sports)

Liverpool have undoubtedly begun a new era under Arne Slot on a strong note, as they sit atop the Premier League table. However, whether they can win titles in his first season remains to be seen. Regardless, the next few months will be intriguing, as the futures of not only Trent Alexander-Arnold but also Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are uncertain.
