Real Madrid change stance on star player; set to hand him new contract this summer - Reports
According to Marca, Real Madrid have changed their stance on selling Ferland Mendy. As per the report, renewing Mendy's deal is a priority for the Madrid giants.
Los Blancos' interest in Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies is well-documented. However, a potential deal for Davies remains uncertain. As per reports, Carlo Ancelotti wants to keep Mendy regardless of the status of the Davies deal.
Mendy has been one of Ancelotti's most reliable players in the Spanish capital. When fit, he is one of the undisputed starters for the Madrid giants. Mendy, 29, joined the club in 2019 and has so far made 170 appearances, scoring six goals and providing 10 assists.
His current deal with Real Madrid runs out at the end of the 2024-25 season and as per Marca, the club have tabled a renewal proposal for Mendy. While there's no certainty about the negotiations concluding, both parties are understood to be on good terms.
A new deal for Mendy could be concluded before the season kicks off with the European Super Cup against Atalanta. Mendy, meanwhile, is currently in France's squad for Euro 2024 but is yet to play a game as Didier Deschamps has used Theo Hernandez as his first-choice left-back.
Real Madrid new signing Kylian Mbappe has already spoken highly about Ferland Mendy
Kylian Mbappe has already joined Los Merengues as a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer. Mbappe spoke highly about Ferland Mendy ahead of Euro 2024.
The France captain claimed that he doesn't know Mendy very well but lauded the full-back's quality. Mbappe told Quest-France (via Managing Madrid):
"He's a very solid player. Being a consistent starter at Real Madrid for all these years is the best kind of CV. We still don't know each other very well, but we will soon be able to do so."
Apart from being teammates in the national team, the duo will now share the dressing room at the club level as well. Mbappe and Mendy could become a fearsome partnership on the left side of Ancelotti's team.
