Real Madrid coaches believe star defender is returning to his best amid exit speculations - Reports
Real Madrid defender Eder Militao has been the subject of transfer speculation for much of the summer transfer window. The club's coaches have given an indication regarding his future and how he is recovering from his injury.
Militao, who joined Los Blancos from FC Port in 2019, suffered an injury setback at the start of the 2023-24 season. He tore his ACL in the club's first match of the season against Athletic Bilbao. It took him nearly the whole season to make another appearance for Real Madrid.
His performances for Real Madrid since his return from injury at the end of the season resulted in doubts hovering over his future at the club. Militao, however, was able to shut his critics at the Copa America 2024 with Brazil. He showed no signs of any impact on his physical condition after recovering from a serious injury.
He has, now, got confidence from his club's coaching staff as well. They are happy with his recovery and have faith that he is returning to his best, as reported by AS.
“He is returning to his best,” the coaching staff said according to AS.
Militao lined up alongside Antonio Rudiger in the center of defense for Real Madrid in their UEFA Super Cup final against Atalanta on August 14. The 26-year-old put up a commanding performance to help the 15-time European champions win 2-0.
"I am very pleased and happy" - When Real Madrid defender Militao spoke about his return
The injury Militao suffered last season was the most serious one of his career. His comeback game in April was co-incidentally against the same opponent he got injured. The Brazilian thanked the Madridistas for the support they showed him during his time out and on the day of his return.
“I’m very pleased and happy for the support received from the fans. When I went out for the warm-up, they showed their support and it filled me with a joy that I cannot explain,” Militao said in April (via Managing Madrid).
He mentioned how difficult it was for him to be out injured for so long and what kept him going.
“I’ve been thinking about this moment for a long time. It’s been difficult for me, but now it’s time to enjoy it. The return had to be here, at home. Moreover, against the club I picked up an injury against. To come back against them is a great feeling for me,” said Militao after making his comeback.
The Real Madrid ace also highlighted the gratitude he has for the entire club for their support and how special they made him feel.
“I can’t describe how great a group we have. They support you, they help you and to come on and receive their support is a real honor. I’m thinking about all the people who helped me, from physios to family members. It’s been a very difficult time," he concluded.
Real Madrid will now kick off their domestic season with a trip to Mallorca on August 18 with Militao expected to start at the back.
