Real Madrid interested in £75m-rated Premier League star who is also tracked by Manchester United: Reports
Manchester United have long been linked to a move for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, but they could face new competition from Real Madrid. As per reports, the Spanish giants have now set their sights on the 22-year-old centre-back, valued at approximately £75 million.
Branthwaite began his career with the Toffees, graduating from Finch Farm, and made his first-team debut in July 2022. Last season, while Everton finished in 15th after a sub-par season, the 22-year-old was a shining light, scoring three goals in 35 Premier League games. He also helped keep 12 clean sheets in those appearances.
His impressive performances lured Manchester United to the negotiation table, as they looked to sign him during the summer transfer window. They agreed on personal terms with Branthwaite in June, as per reports. However, their offers to Everton, which reached £50 million at some point, were all rejected, with the Merseysiders expecting £70 million (via ESPN).
The transfer window ended with the Red Devils signing centre-backs Mattijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich and Leny Yoro from Lille. However, their interest in Branthwaite has remained steady. United have to be wary now, though, with a new report from GiveMeSport (via TeamTalk) claiming Real Madrid have placed Branthwaite on their radar.
Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti notably included Branthwaite in the Everton first team in 2020, when he was in charge of the club. At the time, the Italian tactician made it clear that the 22-year-old would become a future star.
“He has a really good character apart from the quality he is able to show. It’s just the start. As I’ve said before we have to be patient with him, but he’s a really good defender. Good with the ball, always focused. I know his character. He’s really focused and humble. It’s a pleasure for us to have this young player," Ancelotti said back then (via TeamTalk).
Jarrad Branthwaite is currently dealing with a groin injury. Everton will hope for his return soon, having lost their first three Premier League games.
Manchester United and Real Madrid keep tabs on 21-year-old full-back
Jarrad Branthwaite is not the only player on Manchester United and Real Madrid's radars. The two European giants were in a notable transfer battle for Lille youngster Leny Yoro this summer. United won the tussle as the teenager opted for a move to Old Trafford.
Now, both clubs are monitoring Sevilla's 21-year-old right-back Juanlu Sanchez. Last season, he played 37 games in all competitions, including six in the UEFA Champions League. The youngster, whose performances have put him in the limelight, was also part of the Spain U-21 side that won Olympics Gold.
A report from Fabrizio Romano (via Football Espana) claims that Real Madrid and Manchester United have sent scouts to watch Sanchez. The young Spaniard has already played in all four of Sevilla's La Liga games this season, scoring one goal.
