Real Madrid interested in signing 26-year-old Eredivisie star amid injury woes: Reports
Real Madrid are considering a move for PSV Eindhoven defender Olivier Boscagli in the 2025 summer transfer window amid their injury problems. Los Blancos are faced with a serious crisis in their defensive unit, with several of their stars ruled out of action through injury.
The exit of Nacho Fernandez as a free agent in the summer of 2024 created the need for Real Madrid to sign a new centre-back and they tried to sign Leny Yoro. The Frenchman, however, chose to join Manchester United, leaving the Spanish giants unable to sign any centre-back cover, as they only wanted the 18-year-old.
Cadena SER reports that Real Madrid are now interested in signing Frenchman Boscagli, who will be available for free in the summer of 2025. The 26-year-old is an alternative to Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah, who is also wanted by the Spanish giants.
Since this summer, Los Blancos have lost Eder Militao and 16-year-old prospect Joan Martinez to ACL injuries while David Alaba is yet to return from his knee injury.
This has left the club with just Antonio Rudiger and Jesus Vallejo as their senior centre-back options, causing the club to change their perspective on making new additions.
Formerly of Nice, Boscagli has featured 16 times in the Eredivisie and UEFA Champions League for PSV this season, helping the side keep six clean sheets. The former France U-21 international has played 177 games since joining the Dutch club back in 2019, with ten goals and as many assists to his name in that time.
Real Madrid will be able to sign Boscagli to a pre-contract agreement in January if he does not extend his stay with PSV before then. The talented defender will be a good addition to Carlo Ancelotti's squad for the 2025-26 season, if he joins.
Real Madrid linked with former Atletico Madrid star - Reports
Real Madrid have been linked with a move for Spanish defender Mario Hermoso, who was on the books of rivals Atletico Madrid until June. The centre-back is now with AS Roma in Italy, having joined them as a free agent until 2027.
Los Blancos' interest in Hermoso has been reported by Marca, as the Spanish champions are keen to address their defensive problems. The club has only two senior centre-backs fit, with their other options either facing lengthy spells out or returning from such spells.
Mario Hermoso was on the books of Real Madrid as a youngster but failed to make the grade at the club and never made a professional appearance for the club.
A move may materialise due to the internal turmoil that has engulfed the Serie A club which has seen them already part ways with two managers this season.
