Real Madrid midfielder unhappy with treatment from Carlo Ancelotti, set to receive offer from Champions League rivals: Reports
Real Madrid star Brahim Diaz is reportedly discontented with his squad role under Carlo Ancelotti and could join UEFA Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund this summer.
Diaz, who joined Los Merengues from Manchester City for €17 million in the winter of 2019, has proved to be an essential rotational option for his club this season. The Malaga-born Morocco international has scored 12 goals and laid out nine assists in 44 appearances across competitions, including just 22 starts, for his team so far.
However, according to Spanish news website El Nacional, Diaz is unhappy with Ancelotti as the Italian has failed keep his pre-season promise of using the player in an important role. He is said to be keen to leave Real Madrid to join a club where he can be a leader.
As a result, Borussia Dortmund have emerged as a potential suitor for the right-footed versatile operator. They are interested in launching a permanent move for the midfielder, who has also attracted attention from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen of late.
Diaz, whose current contract is set to expire in June 2027, could relish a fine time at Dortmund should he join them. He would potentially replace Marco Reus, who will leave BVB at the end of his contract next month, and offer healthy competition to Julian Brandt.
Real Madrid superstar hails Carlo Ancelotti
Speaking to UEFA, Real Madrid attacker Vinicius Junior opened up on his relationship with Carlo Ancelotti. The 23-year-old elaborated:
"He's done everything for me. He's always given me confidence, told me off when I needed it and we've developed a very good relationship. He cares about me as much as I care about him. He's change me as a player, not on the pitch, but in the way I think about training and development."
Shedding light on how Ancelotti has helped him grow, Vinicius added:
"He always says that my humility is my biggest virtue because I always listen to the others. Whenever I score a goal in a match, I always want my teammates to score too, so they can be in a better position. I'm not driven by vanity, for playing with the best players, the best stars. Every day, he teaches me more and more on and off the pitch."
Vinicus, who is reportedly a 2024 Ballon d'Or award favorite, has won a total of eight trophies after Ancelotti's return to Real Madrid in 2021.
The 28-cap Brazil international will next feature for Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on Saturday (June 1).
