Real Madrid plot January move for €25m-rated Serie A star amid Trent Alexander-Arnold uncertainty - Reports
Real Madrid are reportedly considering the possibility of bringing in Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso as a replacement for the injured Dani Carvajal during the January transfer window in 2025. Cambiaso has been described as a ‘backup option’ for Real Madrid should they be unable to bring Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold to the Spanish capital.
Prior to now, Alexnader-Arnold had been on Real Madrid’s transfer radar. But due to the uncertainty surrounding the player’s future, Los Blancos have cast their net wide and identified Juventus player Andrea Cambiaso as a replacement for Carvajal.
According to Italian sports newspaper Tuttosport, Cambiaso has caught the eye of Real Madrid due to his versatility. He is a defender who can play as a left and right back, which makes him more appealing to the Spanish giants.
Andrea Cambiaso’s current market value is €25 million as per Transfermarkt. Real Madrid could make a move for the Italian defender in the next transfer window, as he's not really expensive. Also, he is still young and will have a lot of years to play for the club.
Los Blancos have sent scouts on multiple occasions to watch Cambiaso in action for Juve as per Football Italia. Juventus, on the other hand, doesn’t want the player to leave, as they extended his stay until 2029 in May. Adding salt to injury, the player has no intention of leaving the Allianz Stadium as per TUTTO Mercato WEB.
Amidst these developments, it was also reported that Los Blancos are also eyeing Bayer Leverkusen’s defender Jonathan Tah along with Alexander-Arnold.
Can Real Madrid still sign Andrea Cambiaso even after he extended his contract with Juventus?
With Andrea Cambiaso extending his stay with the Old Lady, the chances of Los Blancos signing him are now slim. However, Real Madrid are a European heavyweight renowned for being able to lure footballers who are in their prime to their side.
With this in mind, it is possible that they could pull a few strings. But Carvajal is only ruled out until the end of the season. If Carlo Ancelotti’s side are able to convince the 24-year-old to leave his current club, the question is if they can guarantee him of being a regular at the Bernabeu after Carvajal returns from injury.
Since returning from Bologna on loan in 2023, Cambiaso has been an important man in Juventus' back four. To put into perspective, he featured in almost all the Serie A matches for the Old Lady last season. He only missed four Serie A games (two were due to yellow card suspension, one was due to illness, and he was an unused substitute in the last one).
In this ongoing season, he has featured in all seven Serie A matches and two Champions League games for Juventus. While the Spanish giants could guarantee him the possibility of winning the coveted UCL title, the player could prioritize his playing time over winning trophies as a bench.
