Real Madrid send surprise contract renewal offer to star player - Reports

Real Madrid have reportedly sent club legend Nacho Fernandez a contract renewal offer. The Spanish defender's current deal expires on June 30 this summer.

Nacho is one of the few players whose contract with Los Blancos is set to expire this summer. Multiple reports have suggested that he will leave the club as a free agent. As per One Football, he has offers from Saudi Arabia and has also garnered interest from Inter Milan and MLS side Inter Miami.

However, Marca have now reported that Real Madrid have offered Nacho a one-year extension. The deal, though, has an expiry date of June 30. So, the Spaniard has around three weeks to make his final decision.

Nacho came through Los Blancos' academy and recently became the joint-most decorated player in the club's history alongside Luka Modric with 26 titles. He mostly played a secondary role behind the starters, playing across all four positions in defense. He's made 364 appearances so far and also contributed 16 goals and 10 assists.

Nacho captained the Spanish giants to three trophies last season amidst an injury crisis. He made 45 appearances across competitions, with David Alaba and Eder Militao suffering ACL injuries, and won the La Liga, UEFA Champions League, and Supercopa de Espana.

Real Madrid star on Kylian Mbappe's best position

Los Blancos recently announced the high-profile signing of Kylian Mbappe, a man they have chased for years. He joins as a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain upon the expiration of his contract.

There has been plenty of speculation around Mbappe's potential position at Real Madrid as he likes to play on the left wing. However, Vinicius Jr. currently plays there for the Merengues and is unlikely to be replaced. Mbappe has played as a centre-forward as well though.

In a recent press conference, Eduardo Camavinga was asked about Mbappe and he said (via Managing Madrid):

"People don’t necessarily see Mbappé’s qualities as a passer. I don’t know what Ancelotti thinks, he will make the right decisions to align everyone. We will see next season.”

Mbappe and Camavinga are currently set to compete in the UEFA Euro 2024 with France and are considered the favorites to lift the trophy. The duo will not feature in the 2024 Olympics and return to Real Madrid to prepare for the 2024-25 season.
