Real Madrid star nearing return from injury ahead of crucial Champions League clash vs Liverpool: Reports
Aurelien Tchouameni could be available for Real Madrid in their UEFA Champions League encounter with leaders Liverpool on Wednesday (November 27). The French midfielder skipped the international break due to an ankle sprain.
Spanish outlet Diario AS reports that Tchouameni is working hard and feeling better. He's eyeing a return for Los Blancos' trip to Anfield, a hugely important game for Carlo Ancelotti's men.
Real Madrid sit 18th in the Champions League table amid a mixed run of results. They lost 3-1 to AC Milan last time out, and it gets even tougher against an unbeaten Liverpool team in red-hot form.
Tchouameni sprained his left ankle in the defeat to Milan (November 6) and hasn't played since. He missed a 4-0 win over Osasuna in La Liga before the international break.
Didier Deschamps initially called the 24-year-old up to France's squad for UEFA Nations League action but withdrew. He will also miss his club's La Liga outing against Leganes tomorrow (November 24).
Yet, the Liverpool game looks to be in Tchouameni's sights, which will be a massive boost to Ancelotti. The Italian coach is feeling the heat at the Santiago Bernabeu as Madrid stumbles despite the arrival of Kylian Mbappe in the summer.
Liverpool are reportedly not interested in signing Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni
Liverpool had been linked with Tchouameni recently ahead of the two European giants' clash at Anfield. The Frenchman has endured a topsy-turvy season with many pondering his future at the Bernabeu.
Tchouameni was on the Reds' radar when he joined Real Madrid from AS Monaco two summers' ago for €100 million (£85 million). Arne Slot has money to burn in January because of the Merseysiders' lack of transfer activity this past summer.
Yet, trusted The Athletic journalist James Pearce reports that the Premier League leaders aren't expected to pursue Tchouameni. He told the Walk On podcast (via TEAMTalk):
"There’s been a lot of talk about Tchouameni, hasn’t there, at Real Madrid? There’s talk about them potentially looking to move him on, and I think mainly because obviously we know Liverpool were so keen a couple of years ago, that those links have surfaced. I’ve been told at the minute there’s nothing concrete in that."
Tchouameni has been a prominent member of Madrid's team since arriving at the Bernabeu in July 2022. He's made 15 appearances across competitions this season to add to an overall record of three goals and five assists in 103 games.
