Real Madrid transfer target more likely to join Barcelona: Reports
Jonathan Tah is more likely to join Barcelona than Real Madrid in 2025, according to The Daily Briefing. The German defender has entered the final year of his contract with Bayer Leverkusen and hasn't signed an extension yet.
Tah was outstanding for the Bundesliga champions last season, helping them win the league as well as the DFB Pokal. However, the player has already announced that he will leave the club at the end of the season.
Los Blancos are eyeing him as an option to strengthen their troubled backline. The LaLiga giants are already without David Alaba and have now lost Eder Militao for the rest of the season.
Real Madrid are eyeing defensive additions in the winter transfer window and Tah has emerged as an option. However, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are apparently ahead of Los Blancos in the race.
The Bavarians wanted the 28-year-old last summer and his agent, Pini Zahavi, has recently stated that they remain in the race. Hansi Flick's presence at Camp Nou, meanwhile, gives the Catalans an advantage in the race.
The German manager first brushed into Tah during their time together with the national team. Flick apparently holds the player in high regard and wants Barcelona to sign him next summer.
Real Madrid could have an advantage in the race should they move for the German in January. However, the Spanish champions are apparently planning a move in the summer as well.
How have Barcelona and Real Madrid performed in LaLiga this season?
Barcelona and Real Madrid remain on the hunt for the LaLiga title this season as well. Los Blancos strengthened their squad over the summer by roping in Kylian Mbappe and Endrick.
The Catalans, meanwhile, handed the charge of the first team squad to Hansi Flick this summer. Unfortunately, the club missed out on most of their top targets, only managing to add Dani Olmo to their roster before the end of the transfer window.
However, it was Barcelona who started the season strong, going on a winning streak under their new manager. The Catalans have now won 11 of their 13 games in the league and are sitting at the top of the table.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, are second in the league, six points behind their bitter rivals. However, Los Blancos have a game in hand. Carlo Ancelotti's team may not be firing on all cylinders yet, but they remain firmly in the title race right now.
