Robert Lewandowski threatens to leave Barcelona if Joan Laporta and Deco go ahead with proposed plan: Reports
Robert Lewandowski has threatened to leave Barcelona if the club sign another top-class striker in the 2025 summer transfer window, according to El Nacional. Lewandowski's stance comes after rumours of Barca president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco scouting the market for a striker for their next campaign.
Sources close to the Polish attacker say that he has made it abundantly clear that his place in the squad must remain unquestioned. If this changes, and Barcelona do sign another striker, he is willing to pack his bags and move elsewhere. There have been rumours of Newcastle United's Alexander Isak or Napoli's on-loan Victor Osimhen coming to Barca next summer.
Lewandowski does not want to share the spotlight or compete with another striker in the final stretch of his career. The 36-year-old has scored 23 goals in 24 appearances he has made for Barcelona in all competitions this season and also bagged two assists.
Barcelona might be looking towards the future
While Lewandowski reportedly feels that the management wants to undermine his position in the squad, in reality, it might be different. Barcelona may be looking towards the future and building a reserve for all positions in the squad, including that of the centre-forward. Lewandowski, at 36, is not expected to be around forever.
Apart from him, Barcelona currently do not have any players who can play in the sole centre-forward position. The likes of Ansu Fati, Pau Victor, Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres are all wingers who can only be asked to play as makeshift strikers. Hence, the management's decision to go into the market for strikers is good for the future of the club.
The former Bayern Munich man arrived at Camp Nou in the 2022 summer transfer window as a free agent and has scored a total of 82 goals in 119 appearances so far. Lewandowski has also bagged 19 assists, which points towards the fact that he can also play the creator's role in the team.
