Ruben Amorim faces fresh headache as Manchester United directors make bold transfer budget decision: Reports
According to reports, Manchester United are not planning to spend big in the next few transfer windows, which could make Ruben Amorim's job at Old Trafford trickier. New co-owners INEOS want the head coach to work with a modest budget and as they stabilize the financial side of the club.
As per The Telegraph, the new co-owners do not want to repeat the past mistakes made by the Glazers. The £313 million loss in the last three seasons has put pressure on the club to remain within Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.
The report adds that they will make a bigger loss this season after missing out of UEFA Champions League football. INEOS now want to ensure that the club do not face any fines or points deductions because of the FFP and PSR rules.
In his first inteview with United's in-house media, Ruben Amorim acknowledged that he wants the squad to work as a team and said:
“In one word: team. The team is the most important thing for me. And if you work as a team, then the talent individually is going to shine. But if I have to explain the importance of everything, it is the character, the way we fight, the way we play, and we must have an identity. If our players take the shirt, they will know that it is the Manchester United team."
However, they have been linked with his former players at Sporting CP. Reports suggest the Red Devils are looking to sign players like Viktor Gyokeres and Geovany Quenda from the Portuguese side in the upcoming windows.
Why Ruben Amorim picked Manchester United
Ruben Amorim has claimed that he felt a connection with Manchester United as soon as they contacted him for the job. He stated that the history of the club was also something that drove him to take the job at Old Trafford. The Portuguese tactician said:
“First of all, I think I felt a connection with the club. And when I say with the club, everybody knows Manchester United. But I feel the connection with the people in the club and that is very important for me because I want to work with people that I like and I feel a connection. The second point is the history of this club. All the people are hungry for success and I feel that this is the place that I want to be also because of that, because you can be part of something special, not just one more."
"And that is something that I really like. And of course, because of the fans, because in Portugal you listen a lot, a lot of stuff from the media. But when you see the games here, when you see the games, the interaction with the managers, with the players, even in difficult moments, I think it is a special club.”
Manchester United are currently 13th in the Premier League table with 15 points from 11 games, 13 points behind leaders Liverpool. However, they are only four points behind third-placed Chelsea.
