Ruben Amorim ready to banish 4 Manchester United players from first team - Reports
Incoming Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has identified four players he wants to offload from his squad, according to Fichajes. Casemiro, Victor Lindelof, Antony, and Christian Eriksen have all been deemed surplus to requirements by the Portuguese tactician.
The Red Devils parted ways with Erik ten Hag on Monday, October 28, following last weekend's 2-1 defeat to West Ham United in the Premier League. The Dutch manager registered a difficult start to the 2024-25 campaign, registering just four wins in 14 games.
Manchester United have moved quickly to announce Amorim as his successor. The Portuguese has transformed Sporting CP since taking charge in 2020 and is one of the most promising young managers in the world right now.
Amorim will remain in charge of the Portuguese giants until November 10 and take charge at Old Trafford during the upcoming international break. However, he has already begun planning for the future.
The Reds Devils have a lot of deadweight in the squad and the Portuguese has identified players who are no longer in his plans. Casemiro has shown signs of regression since last season, and his recent League Cup heroics haven't strengthened his position.
Meanwhile, Antony has also been a disappointment since his big-money move to Old Trafford from Ajax in 2022. Elsewhere, Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof are in the final year of their contracts with Manchester United.
The Reds Devils could offload all four players in the winter at their manager's behest. The departures could open space in their squad for new signings in January.
Will Manchester United switch to a back-three under Ruben Amorim?
Manchester United have traditionally played with a back four but Ruben Amorim's arrival could change that. The Portuguese manager has used a back three during his stint with Sporting CP to great effect.
It is quite likely that Amorim will implement similar tactics once he takes charge at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, and Lisandro Martinez on their roster, and the trio could be a fine fit in a three-man defense.
The Portuguese manager could also bring a new face to strengthen the backline. A recent report has stated that the manager wants a reunion with Ousmane Diomande at Old Trafford.
The Ivorian has been rock-solid at the back for Sporting and could be a fine addition to Manchester United's squad. However, the Red Devils may have to pay at least £70m to secure his services.
