Ruben Amorim set to use Manchester United star Marcus Rashford in unnatural position in new system: Reports

Manchester United's new head coach Ruben Amorim is reportedly set to integrate Marcus Rashford into his 3-4-3 system to help the English forward rediscover his form. Amorim officially became United’s head coach on Monday, November 11. He will properly start his tenure at Old Trafford when the Red Devils travel to face Ipswich Town in the Premier League after the international break.

Rashford’s form at Manchester United has suffered a heavy decline in recent years. This is evident in the numbers he has put out this season, having scored four goals in 18 appearances across competitions.

Amorim plays a back three rather than the traditional back four that former manager Erik ten Hag utilized. Following Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford, reports claimed that he is willing to part ways with multiple players. Fortunately for Rashford, he seems to be part of the plans of the former Sporting CP manager.

According to Dean Jones of GiveMeSport, Amorim plans to allow Rashford to shine as the new No. 9 in Manchester United's 3-4-3 system to integrate him into his team.

Rashford has previously played as a No. 9, but there have always been questions about his suitability for the position.

Strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee are among the players that Ruben Amorim wants to part ways with. Thus, paving the way for Rashford to secure his position as United’s frontman. With this tactical change, the academy graduate could discover his best form following a torrid start to the 2024-25 campaign.

Bruno Fernandes backs Ruben Amorim to bring new energy to Manchester United

Bruno Fernandes hopes new Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim will bring the qualities he displayed at Sporting CP to Old Trafford. Sporting are on an impressive run of form this season and are yet to lose a game across competitions.

Fernandes is, however, hoping that the Portuguese manager can replicate the same at Manchester United and restore the English giants' fortunes. The United midfielder told MUTV:

"This is the right moment for him to come, bring his energy, his qualities and his knowledge of football because he did something very special at Sporting."
"I watched almost all of the Sporting's games. [Amorim] is someone who brought the excitement back to the club. He brought a lot of good things to the club and hopefully, he can do the same here because sometimes a person can change the energy of a space if it's the right moment."
"They were about 20 years without winning the league, he got them back to winning the league and he did it twice in four years with a really [young] team in a moment of change. Hopefully, it can be a successful moment for us."

When Fernandes was asked about what excites him the most about Amorim, he replied:

"He's done really good things tactically, from what I've seen. Obviously, he can't transform what he's done in sporting to here. We have different players and different ways of playing. But I'm sure the idea of football he has, independent of the way he wants to play, will bring us success."
