Serie A giants looking to sign £20 million-rated Liverpool star this summer - Reports
Serie A giants AS Roma are reportedly interested in signing Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg. As claimed by Tribal Football, Daniele De Rossi's side have identified the Dutchman as a target due to his modest price tag of just £20 million.
Van den Berg joined Liverpool from PEC Zwolle in 2019 in a deal reportedly worth just £1.3 million, potentially rising to £4.4 million. However, the Dutch youngster never quite managed to break into the Reds' first team and has been loaned out to three different clubs.
While the 22-year-old did a decent job on loan at Schalke 04 and Preston North End, it was at Mainz where he truly earned the spotlight. Van Den Berg played a key role in ensuring Mainz's safety in the Bundesliga last season.
The PEC Zwolle academy graduate featured 36 times across competitions for Mainz last season, helping them keep nine clean sheets. The 22-year-old earned rave reviews, owing to his stellar showings in Germany, particularly thanks to his pace and composure.
As claimed by Voetbol International via Tribal Football, Liverpool value the former Netherlands under-21 international at around £20 million. AS Roma could be the next destination for the centre-back, with Daniele de Rossi looking to bolster his defense.
Despite enjoying a fantastic season on loan at Mainz, Van den Berg's future at Anfield looks bleak. The young defender has played just 270 minutes for Liverpool across four games.
Former Liverpool defender makes a big claim regarding Mohamed Salah
Former Liverpool left-back Jose Enrique has claimed that Mohamed Salah will be an even bigger superstar than Cristiano Ronaldo if he moves to Saudi Arabia. Amid major speculation surrounding the future of the Egyptian attacker at Anfield, Enrique insisted that selling Salah might not be the worst idea.
The Spaniard admitted that Salah is no longer the player he used to be and Liverpool should consider parting ways with him if they receive a good offer.
"Mohamed Salah isn’t quite the player he was three years ago," the former Reds star told Grosvenor Sport. "He doesn't take on defenders as much, though he’s still a phenomenal goal-scoring machine. If I were Liverpool, and the right offer came in – say, over £100 million – I’d seriously consider it."
"A move to Saudi Arabia could easily fetch that kind of money. I know Liverpool fans might not agree with me – they love Salah and want all their top players to stay – but sometimes, you have to know when to let go," he added.
Enrique also claimed that Salah could eclipse Ronaldo as the biggest superstar in Saudi Arabia should he join the Saudi Pro League.
"For instance, I’d renew Virgil van Dijk’s contract without hesitation, but with Salah, there’s the Saudi option, and he could become an even bigger star out there than Cristiano Ronaldo. Last year, there were offers from Saudi Arabia for Salah. Salah has been Liverpool's talisman since his £34.3 million switch from AS Roma in 2017. He has registered 211 goals and 89 assists in 349 appearances across competitions for the Reds.
Salah has helped Liverpool win the Premier League and the Champions League, among other honors.
