Serie A star stalls over new contract as he wants to join Manchester United: Reports
Adrien Rabiot is reportedly prioritizing a move to Manchester United over signing a new contract with Juventus. The French midfielder's current deal with the Serie A heavyweights expires at the end of this month.
Tuttosport reports Rabiot is stalling on agreeing to extend his stay at the Allianz Stadium with Juve as he's eyeing a move to Old Trafford. The former PSG star is waiting for the Red Devils to make their move.
Rabiot, 29, was linked with Manchester United in the summer of 2022, but a move to Erik ten Hag's side failed to materialize. The two parties reportedly couldn't agree on wages, so he stayed in Turin. He touched on the failed transfer when speaking in late 2022:
"In the end, once it was clear I would not go to United. I focused straight back on Juventus to give everything I had. I didn't want people to doubt my commitment or to think that because I could have left for United, I would not care anymore."
The 43-cap France international was a key player for the Old Lady last season. He made 35 appearances across competitions, registering five goals and three assists as Juve won Coppa Italia.
Ten Hag is set to overhaul his midfield this summer, and Casemiro's future at Manchester United looks doubtful. The Brazilian star is linked with Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr following a frustrating 2023-24 campaign.
Sofyan Amrabat's future could have implications on Adrien Rabiot's potential Manchester United move
Sofyan Amrabat spent last season on loan at Old Trafford from Serie A side Fiorentina. The Moroccan midfielder struggled during the first half of the campaign but became a vital member of Ten Hag's side during the latter stages.
Amrabat, 27, made 30 appearances across competitions for the Red Devils. He was particularly impressive in Manchester United's 2-1 FA Cup final win against Manchester City (May 25).
Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio reports that United could sign Amrabat permanently as his loan expiry date draws closer (June 30). He's also attracted interest from Galatasaray, while Juve and AC Milan have also kept tabs in recent months.
Amrabat's current deal with Fiorentina has a year left, and United's loan deal includes a buy option. They can make the move permanent if they pay £21.4 million, which will add to the £8.5 million loan fee they paid last summer.
Thus, this could affect Rabiot's desired move, as Amrabat's potential permanent signing could mean the Frenchman isn't required. They are similar profiles, although the Moroccan perhaps offers more versatility.
